When did you first look at porn?
I was roughly 7-8 years old. Classmate’s house. His parents were bad at keeping the magazines put away, so it was easy for a couple of motivated boys to grab some & hide in his room. Pretty sure it was a Penthouse, which was weird because the dad was more of a Hustler kinda guy. Think they had subscriptions to the big three; Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler.
First porn movie(s): 15-16. Found 2 VHS tapes, 3 full movies on each. Still remember the different titles.
I ask because I wonder if it is easier or more difficult for kids today to see porn. Pre-internet, parents kept magazines under the bed (or elsewhere). Most of my male peers saw girlie mags before age 10, which doesn’t jive with the reported age of 11 at the time.
All parents didn’t allow porn mags in the house, but most kids knew which parents did. So it begs the questions:
-Are people lying about when they saw? Self-reporting is always fraught, especially with sex.
-Am I one of the outliers? I didn’t think I was special. If anything, others had an easier time getting their hands on porn mags.
I know having gotten my hands on porn movies was an outlier in the mid-late 80’s, especially in small town Nebraska. Most of my peers reported having to try to rig pay-per-view to actually see sex.
Today, mags aren’t kept at home, everything is on computer or phone. And they can have filters applied or kids can get caught via browser histories. Can’t just find a water-soaked Hustler in a ditch with the cover & centerfold missing that you can hide in a basement ceiling tile anymore.
